septum is a series of sculptural interventions constructed from naturally shed ostrich quills mounted in 14k white gold. worn through the nose, the works occupy a charged territory between adornment and defense, transforming a naturally occurring form into an object that is both intimate and confrontational.
the series emerged from an ongoing investigation into containment, self-preservation, and bodily boundaries. each piece activates the threshold between interior and exterior, vulnerability and protection. worn on the face, the quills function as extensions of the body while simultaneously establishing distance, asserting presence through restraint rather than ornamentation.
unaltered in their essential form, the quills retain their natural sharpness and structural integrity. this tension between refinement and rawness remains central to the work. precious metal settings frame rather than transform the material, allowing its inherent qualities to remain visible.
through simplicity of gesture and material, septum examines how identity is communicated, protected, and negotiated. the works operate as visible boundaries, occupying a space where beauty, defense, exposure, and concealment coexist. like the broader practice, the series explores the relationship between external presentation and internal experience, proposing adornment as both expression and protection.
